Candid Conversation with John Risley takes place in the Schwartz Auditorium at 7:30 p.m. All are welcome. The event is presented by StFX, the Gerald Schwartz School of Business and the Frank McKenna Centre for Leadership.

“The event is intended to engage the audience in an active discussion as Mr. Risley presents his provocative thoughts on issues of importance to all of us,” says Mary Coyle, executive director of the Frank McKenna Centre.

Ms. Coyle says the last time Mr. Riley was on campus was 1988 when he was speaking on the controversial topic of the free trade agreement with the United States that was signed that year by the government of Brian Mulroney.

Mr. Risley is president of Clearwater Fine Foods Incorporated, a diversified holding company operating internationally. Its primary assets are a controlling stake in Clearwater Seafoods, Canada’s largest fishing company, and the largest shareholder in Cable & Wireless PLC, a provider of network services, mobile communications and cable tv in 21 countries in the Caribbean and Latin America. The company has majority or significant stakes in a portfolio of startups.

Mr. Risley is very active in community affairs, sitting on the board of a number of charitable organizations. He is chair of Futurpreneur Canada and co-chair of the Capital Campaign for the Nature Conservancy. He regularly engages in public policy debate, is chairman of the Atlantic Institute of Market Studies, a member of the World President’s Organization, The Chief Executives Organization and is a director of the Canadian Council of Chief Executives. He is also a graduate of Harvard University’s President’s Program in Leadership.

He was named an Officer of the Order of Canada and was inducted into the Nova Scotia Junior Achievement Business Hall of Fame in 1997. He is a member of the New York Yacht Club and the Royal Ocean Racing Club.
