Ouch! Gas up today to $1.36.5. We could knock down the price a penny and a bit by eliminating the province’s regulatory system. Since it’s implementation, regulation has cost Nova Scotia drivers over $30 million says the Atlantic Institute for Market Studies. We could knock down the price another few cents if the Dexter government would only live up to a commitment it made while in opposition, a promise to get rid of the tax on tax. Right now we pay a provincial tax of 15.5 cents a litre. The 15% GST is charged on top of that. Finance Minister Graham Steele yesterday gave reporters a litany of execuses on why the government today can’t live up to that promise leaving me to again wonder if they really are any different from the other parties as they once claimed to be.
