AIMS 8th Annual Report Card on Atlantic Canadian High Schools

The AIMS Annual Report Card on Atlantic Canadian High Schools is a tool to be used to improve the education system for our children so they are prepared to compete and succeed in the global economy of their future. If we want to make our schools better, we have to know what their individual strengths and weaknesses are, based on real verifiable data; we have to know how they perform compared to each other, so that we can see who is to be emulated and who needs help.

The on-line version of the Report Card gives you access to the scores on each individual input and outcome measure for which data was available – allowing you to select which criteria is most important to you in assessing school performance and to compare schools on that basis.

Follow the links in the left hand column on this page to access the interactive online Report Card.

Getting Started

Because there is no consistency across provinces on the collection or reporting of data we are unable to offer across province comparisons. To explore and compare the performance of individual schools within provinces, or of your own school over time, each one of these links will first require you to select the province in which you are interested. Follow the links in the left hand column of this webpage to conduct a school report, a school comparison or an outcome comparison.

School Report

To get an individualized report card for a specific school, follow the links for the "School Report". This report allows you to focus on a single school exploring the context in which it operates and how well it does. You will get both achievement and engagement results. You can also compare those results in absolute terms (when the school is compared to the rest of the schools in the province) and in contextual terms (when the school is tested against the reasonable expectations for a school with similar inputs).

School Comparison

If you are interested in comparing the performance of a school over time, follow the link for "School Comparison". You can also use this link if you want to compare the performance of a specific school against that of other schools of your choice. Here you can build a comparative report choosing both the schools and the measures.

Outcome Comparison

If you want to focus on only specific types of schools or particular measures, select "Outcome Comparison". Here you can be as creative as you want. Interested only in larger schools? Select schools that rank from 1st to 5th in terms of size. Think that actually attending class is more important than scores on provincial exams in Newfoundland? Then compare how schools rank on their attendance rate.

The data for this Report Card comes directly from the provincial Departments of Education, School Boards and Districts, Post Secondary Institutions in Atlantic Canada, and Statistics Canada.
