Dr. McNiven is former Dean of the Faculty of Management and a former deputy minister of the Nova Scotia Department of Development. For several years was Executive Vice-President of the Atlantic Provinces Economic Council. He was also a member of the Royal Commission on National Passenger Transportation. Dr. McNiven is co-author of a standard textbook in political science and has authored numerous scholarly articles and reports for government agencies. He has been a member of the editorial boards of Canadian Public Policy and the Western Economic Review, a member of the federal International Trade Advisory Committee and the SSHRCC/NSERC panel on Chairs in the Management of Technology.
Dr. McNiven is a member of the investment committee of the Telecom Applications Research Alliance (TARA). He is coauthor with Janice Plumstead of three major reports on Atlantic Canada’s international competitiveness published by the North American Policy Group in the Faculty of Management. At present, he is working on a project related to the USA at the turn of this century.
